How to Increase Your Sites Search Engine Rankings

By Frank Madan

This article will help you increase your website’s link popularity and ranking in the search engines. If you want to attract a flood of unique, targeted visitors you have to promote your site.

You have no chance of making any sales if no one can find your website. Millions of websites compete for the top keywords and the free traffic that comes with them. Google uses link popularity as its most important factor in ranking sites. That is why link popularity is so important. HotBot, AltaVista, MSN, Inktomi, and others also use link popularity in their ranking formulas. Publishing consistently and getting the right links to your site will drive traffic to it by encouraging direct visits and increasing your link popularity with the search engines.

Link Popularity is based on the basis that people link to good sites, and if a lot of people link to your site, then it must be a good site. According to search engines if other sites are linking to your site, your site is popular, therefore it is useful and deserves a boost in rankings, so people can find it.

If you are starting from the beginning, you need to start with the domain name. Google considers your domain name as a part of its ranking criteria. If your domain name contains your main keyword, you have better chance of a higher placement on search engine results pages for that keyword.

Picking the right name for your domain will make it much easier to promote your website for that keyword. Having keywords in the domain name establishes your website for that keyword, just by virtue of the domain. You still need to build links and use a social network, but it does give you the advantage when you need to get credit for those keywords.

When I build a new site I follow a simple formula, I add a blog to a sub-directory and focus on content that will appeal to my audience instead of just search engines. I summit my articles to the top article directories with links at the bottom to my site. Every time I post to my blog I ping it and give it some time. This will get the attention of search engines spiders, in a few weeks they will start updating my content overnight or in 2 days as opposed to two or three times per month like most sites. The point is to write good content about the subject of your site, get lots of links from article directories, post to your blog and ping it.

The frequency that you add content will effect how search engines rank your website and how often the spiders will return. Websites that publish content consistently get a lot more attention from the search engines.

The way to effect rankings is to constantly publish content on the subject related to the visitors you wish to attract to your site. Instead of worrying about your content to make it perfect its much better to publish regularly than try to write a perfect article every time.

Internet Marketing Guidelines

By Donald Arinze

Internet marketing is essential for an internet business to succeed considering that you get paid when you get noticed. Google AdWords using PPC (Pay Per Click) techniques do work but in my opinion, there are better, more cost effective ways to promote your site/product online.

Link Popularity is a big factor in internet marketing. How many sites link back to you (BACKLINKS)? to achieve this, you’ll need to submit your sites manually to a lot of internet directories in categories relevant to your product / service and submit articles to article directories. How many sites you link to (FRONTLINKS) is also relevant but not as important as sites that link back to you.

This is because when a search is made on the web, the search engine uses robots (webcrawlers) that basically crawl the web for a host of sites that contain your designated keyword. So, the more popular you are among related sites, the more likely your site shows up in the result. Most of these directories offer free submissions.

Speaking of keywords, You will also need to optimize your site “meta tags”(SEO) for relevant keywords, considering that the robots first search the meta tags for keywords relevant to your site.

Having done this, free traffic exchange networks are a good, cheap and effective way to guarantee free hits to your website. Basically, you join the exchange as a free member, add your websites and banners to the exchange (usually 5 sites/banners) for free members and surf the exchange for credits so that your sites can be seen by other members. You will need credits in your account to receive hits to your URL/banner. Free credits are usually given for a start.

Email marketing is also a proven way to get eyeballs looking at your site. You can do this by joining safelists and FFA (Free For ALL) websites. This done you can safely send broadcast mails to the list everyday, advertising your services and it won’t be regarded as spam. Most of these safelist have thousands of active subscribers and are free. Email marketing is known to be the most effective form of internet advertising today.

Forums will also increase both link popularity and hits to your site. Join forums relevant to the service / product you offer and participate in discussions. Don’t forget to leave your site URL as your signature in the forums you participate in. This way, every post you make will have your URL in it. Forum members are an inquisitive bunch as you may have already noticed.

The list goes on and on, but I think these techniques will set you off in the right direction without spending hundreds of dollars on methods that don’t work as well. It’s a time consuming process, but when done effectively, will guarantee results in a couple of months.
